Methodology
How Spoil the Paw evaluates dog gear
Each recommendation starts as desk research, not a fake hands-on review. We compare official specs, material details, fit range, cleaning friction, merchant policies, and recurring owner concerns before an editor signs the page off.

Core principles
What guides our reviews
- We prefer product archetypes and practical use-cases over hype language.
- We separate research confidence from direct experience and label that clearly.
- We score for real owner friction: fit, cleanup, durability, and return-window risk.
- We update pages when core facts, links, or merchant availability changes.
Score legend
How scores work
- 9.0-10: strong fit for a clear use-case with few obvious tradeoffs
- 8.0-8.9: good recommendation with one or two meaningful compromises
- Below 8.0: worth considering only for a niche need or tighter budget
